INI EMEMOBONG TO HEARSAYERS: "TILL TODAY, I HAVE GREAT ADMIRATION FOR GODSWILL AKPABIO'S COURAGE"
----Analyses where loyalty should begin and where it should end.

JERRY JOHNNY, UYO

From a close but logical look, the observation of a fickle loyalty was prevalent in the Akwa Ibom politics during the 2019 elections. The fickleness noticed among political players and their parties; between Representatives and their constituents and among key politicians and their admirers brought a great deal of an unusual tainted feelings in the state.

Though seasonal and always widespread during the political period, the defections that occurred during the 2019 general elections, not just in Akwa Ibom, but in Nigeria as a whole was shocking. One of such was the defection of the former Governor of Akwa Ibom, Sen. Akpabio which the national Chairman of the APC, Comr. Adams Oshiomole described as "an uncommon defection."

During his defection, (though he: Akpabio has chose to call it a "movement"), a lot of disbelievers lost faith in the PDP in Akwa Ibom State: that the entire Party structure has equally defected (in his words, "moved) to the APC. This was because many of them saw Akpabio (Sen.) as a "god" and a "man maker" whose worshipers will also follow him to his new found love: the APC. Though those who doubted the power of the ONLY GOD joined him, nevertheless, the party soared above imagination.

Now, the point: one of the persons that the disbelievers thought will join Sen. Akpabio is the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Comr. Ini Ememobong. When their expectations became futile as there was no plans by the loyal Comr to swing his stands with the PDP and his loyalty to the Governor, Udom Emmanuel, another thought: that he will not address or reply to any tantrums from the defected Senator to his party. This, according to them, is because Akpabio played a vital role to the discovery and the emergence of Ini Ememobong in the political space; and he wouldn't dare respond or react to Akpabio's actions.

While interacting with news men in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital on where loyalty should begin, and possibly end, the PDP spokesman said that till today, he has a great deal of love for Sen. Akpabio, his former boss, especially for his courage. He said he doesn't see loyalty as slavery, stating that he addresses people and attacks issues.

Ememobong said that when Akpabio newly defected, he never accused both the GOVERNOR and the PDP for any reason and there was no need to react owning to the fact that it was a political season and anyone could defect and that there are consequences to his defection. According to Ememobong, responses from the Publicity Secretariat of the PDP started going to Akpabio and his aides the moment he started abusing the PDP.

For Comr Ini Ememobong, there are messages that when given, the messenger must also be addressed too when responses are to be given, irrespective of who sends the message and that he will have no pains is addressing who ever said anything against his party, the PDP.
"If I felt at any point unable to do that duty, I then needed to resign," he added.

He also added that before an appointment was given to him by his former boss, there were already two appointments given to him by the presidency: one from the office of the SFG and the other, from the MDGs. For him, when his discovery should be talked about, people like his father, Nkpisong Ememobong Essien; Babagana Kinkibe; Michael Bush; David Okokon and others should be mentioned who were very instrumental to his early discovery.

As it is in his spirit, the party man said he permanently appreciates everyone who kept the wrung of the ladder for him to climb though that will not make him to disobey God and obey any man.

HEAR HIM:

A lot of people. . . make that reference when it has to do with my former boss, former Governor Godswill Akpabio. Till today, I have a great deal of admiration for his courage: Chief Godswill Akpabio has a lot of courage. He's one person that if he sets a target, he wants to get it.

You see, but, even when I served under him, I don't see loyalty as servitude; and like I said in my reply to one of his aids, I've never had a misfortune of sending my brain on vacation and taking another person's own. . . .

. . .was interviewing  me the Monday after Senator Akpabio defected and people said I was being diplomatic; I said "no," there's nothing to say there. The man hasn't accused the PDP of anything; that the day he accuses the PDP, I'll give a reply. Everyone said you're being diplomatic, I said I'm not diplomatic.
I am simply saying: yhe gentleman says he's defected; yes, there are consequences to his defection. I'll advise the PDP as he advised us during Nelson Effiong's to go to court and reclaim his seat. . . that is it.
In his defection, he has not accused the GOVERNOR or accused the party of anything; so, there is nothing to say.

But, immediately he started accusing the party, he was granted an interview on channels and said that he and the GOVERNOR were on the same page; that they are still friends. That the GOVERNOR is the god father to his children. What should I have said?  But immediately my former boss began to abuse my party, he knew: he was one of those who voted for me, he knew that when he attacks the party, it is my duty to reply; and like I said to you, there are messages that when given, you must also address the messenger and it didn't matter whether it was my political father, or it was my biological father, or it was my spiritual father. I would have no pains in addressing who ever said anything against the party: I had a duty to do. IF I FELT AT ANY POINT UNABLE TO DO THAT DUTY, THEN I NEEDED TO RESIGN. . . . For me, I PERMANENTLY APPRECIATE EVERYONE THAT HAS KEPT THE WRUNG OF THE LADDER FOR ME TO CLIMB, I've said so before. . .  (emphasis: mine). If you want to talk about discovery, I'll give it to Nkpisong Ememobong Essien. He was the first person at three years who put me up on a stage and told me "my friend, speak." That's discovery and he kept grooming me. When you want to talk about discovery, you talk about Michael Bush; you talk about David Okokon who gave me opportunities when no one really knew an Ini Ememobong; you talk about Babagana Kinkibe. . . you don't discover a man who has already been discovered. But when you talk about people appointing, the first Government appointment I had came from. . . the office of the secretary to the government of the federation, personally signed by Babagana Kinkibe facilitated through people like Dr. Akpan. Before  I even became Personal Assistant, the second government appointment I had was being a Technical Assistant to the MDGs office of the Presidency facilitated by Steve Leo Akpan and Prof Bisibe in Bayelsa. I third appointment I had was being SA Students. . . WE ARE PERMANENTLY GRATEFUL TO EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL GOD HAS USED. . . but that will not make me disobey God and obey you."
(Emphases: mine)
